Chelsea completes the signing of Angelo Gabriel, an 18-year-old Brazilian winger, from Santos for an undisclosed amount
In October 2020, at the age of 15 years and 308 days, Angelo Gabriel made history as the youngest player ever to participate in Brazil’s top-flight league. He achieved this milestone during his debut against Fluminense at the Maracana Stadium.
Since then, Angelo has played 129 games for Santos, scoring a total of five goals. In April 2021, at the age of 16, he became the youngest goal scorer in the Copa Libertadores.
As a left-footed attacker, Angelo has represented Brazil at the under-15, under-17, and under-20 levels, but he has yet to receive a call-up for the senior international team.
Angelo Gabriel is Chelsea’s third signing of the transfer window. The club has also acquired Christopher Nkunku, a 25-year-old forward from RB Leipzig, for a fee of £52 million, and 22-year-old Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal.
Chelsea is actively working to reduce the size of their squad. Midfielder Mateo Kovacic has joined Manchester City, while Kai Havertz and Mason Mount have moved to Arsenal and Manchester United respectively. Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and defender Kalidou Koulibaly have made their way to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.
N’Golo Kante has also switched to a Saudi Pro League team, Al-Ittihad. Additionally, midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and winger Christian Pulisic have departed for AC Milan.
Furthermore, midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has left the club as a free agent, and defender Cesar Azpilicueta has moved to Atlético Madrid on a free transfer.
